CodePath Tech Fellow (TF) Role Description

Organizational Overview

CodePath.org is an early-stage nonprofit dedicated to offering an accelerated pathway into the technology industry for college students all across the US, with an emphasis on serving underserved, low-income, and first-generation students. We offer a variety of courses and services to students both directly on-campuses at colleges and remotely using video classrooms with instructors and TFs. All of these courses and services are offered to students entirely for free, funded directly by the technology industry in order to invest in the next generation of talented software engineers.Our vision is that every student in college, regardless of background or personal circumstances, should have the opportunity, skills, network, and pathways available to become a confident and successful software engineer in the tech industry.

CodePath.org is currently registered as an employer in the following state in which you may/may not be a resident: Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington. If your state is NOT listed above and you confirm that you are okay with moving forward with working and being taxed by the state of Calirfornia until the account is set up in your state, you may continue to fill out this application(please keep in mind, this is not definite, but possible). You will be taxed in the state of California as that is the state location of CodePath.org. We do not know when the account for your state of residency will be set up as different states have different processes, it could take a week or over 3 months.

The Role

Our Tech Fellows [TFs] are former students who are passionate about sharing their technical skills with students from underrepresented groups in tech. This summer, TF’s will be primarily responsible for supporting participants in our Technical Interview Prep (TIP) courses. They will attend class sessions and move between breakout rooms to assist students in small groups, in addition to providing some out-of-class support for students as well such as office hours and outreach via Slack. The TF role is a part-time, 4 to 7 hour per week commitment for 10 weeks during Summer 2024, plus an additional 10-15 hours of virtual training prior to the start of the course.

Responsibilities

  • Circulate during breakout room practice to facilitate conversation, help students with points of confusion, and ensure strong participation from all students.
  • Develop strong relationships with program participants to support their growth and development throughout the program.
  • Assist with answering technical questions on Slack or during breakout sessions
  • Review all session material prior to attending class to ensure strong understanding of the content.
  • Maintain contact with CodePath Instructional Program Manager and Tech Fellow Manager which may include Slack discussions and synchronous check-ins to debrief the session trends and continue to improve as a TF.
  • Lead weekly office hours to support students through their assignments. (select TFs only)
  • Do outreach to recruit students for CodePath classes

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to increasing equity in computer science and the tech industry at large.
  • Currently studying or have completed a degree in Computer Science (or related field).
  • Experience navigating the technical interview process.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to motivate and coach others toward understanding complex concepts.
  • You have completed a CodePath course or served as CodePath TF in the last year
  • Must be authorized to work in the US. This is not a CPT/OPT qualified position.

Payment/Stipend

Tech Fellows will be paid an hourly rate of $17.65.
